You borrow a coin, say OH half-a-crown or a penny, exhibit it freely to , the TO?-* audience and then wrap it in the magic handkerchief, You call upon anyone to hold it in full view, and then place a glass of water on the table. You direct the person holding the coin to drop it into the glass. He does so; everybody hears it strike the bottom, but when the handkerchief is withdrawn the coin has vanished, and you make it reappear in some unexpected place.
