DISTINGUISHED FLYING MEDAL
Another New Zealand airman has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal according to official advict received by Air Headquarters, Wei lington. He is Sergeant Jeffery George West, R.N.Z.A.F. (mother. Mrs C. S. West, care Miss Tucker. 37 Cairns Avenue, Wanganui).
The citation accompanying the award states:“Sergeant West has participated in 34 operational sorties over enemy territory and has at all times displayed courage and deter mination. He has destroyed at leas T two enemy aircraft.”
Sergeant West was born in Palmerston North in 1912 and was educated at Hamilton High School, where he took a prominent part in sport, representing the school at Rugby, hrickei and hockey. He later represented Wai kato at hockey and cricket.

he says, “and never yet have we beer, able* to get any evidence that the cigarettes in question were purchased
over a counter at the club.”
