Believed to be the only New Zea land, soldier so far invalided home blinded in the present war, Mr C H Humphries. Carterton, is now in the New Zealand Institute'for the Blind which he entered some weeks ago. Mr Humphries, who -is single, was formerly employed in the freezing works at Waingawa. near Masterton He left New Zealand with the First Echelon • The injury which caused his blindness was not due to enemy action, but to an explosion in a parcel of detonators as he -was lifting it from a truck in August of last year. After hospital treatment he was sent home with a draft which arrived in Feb ruary.
