Hospitality At Clubs For Men Of Forces
. The lounge of the Wellington Y.M.C.A. was filled to capacity yesterday when men of all arms of the services gathered to enjoy the hospitality provided for them by members of the Hutt Valley Y.M.C.A. Ladies’ Auxiliary, Waterloo branch, under the direction of the president, Mrs. J. W. Andrews. Mr. W. Carey was in the chair, and was .accompanied by Mrs. Carey. Associated with the chairman was Mr. L. Cato, secretary of the Hutt Valley Y.M.C.A. The request of the King for a special day of prayer was observed, Mr. Carey offering an appropriate prayer on behalf of the nation, and the men stood for the usual minute’s silent prayer, remembering the men serving overseas. An excellent programme of entertainment was provided, vocal solos being given by Miss Muriel Hitcfiings, Mr. E. Gardiner and Mr. W. Roy Hill, a violin solo by Miss Ruth Reid, and elocutionary items by Miss Nola Hyde. Tine accompanist was Mrs. McDonald.
A representative of each arm of the services thanked the hostesses and the artists. A hearty community sing was enjoyed by the men, the leader being Mr. J. White,. and the pianist Mr. J. Mann.
