N.Z. Amateur Boxing Champion
Advice has been received by SeniorSergeant A. G. McHugh. Hamilton, that his son, Lance-Corporal Maurice James McHugh, who was reported missing in Crete, has escaped fimn the enemy and is now safe in Egypt Senior Sergeant McHugh had berm advised privately that his son had been fatally wounded and he had given up hope.
Lance-Corporal McHugh, who is 2-1 years of age, was edmated at Sacred Heart College, .Auckland, where In was open boxing ’•lurmpion foi three years, and the Auckland I'mver-ity Col lege, lie was employed by the Customs Department before enlisting.
From 1936 to 1938 nee Corporal McHugh was .Auckland I'uiv -r<ity and open atnatenr heavyweight .•hampion in 1937 and 1938 New Zealand Cni versify champion, and in 1938 New Zea land open heavyweight boxing chain pion. lie won the New Zealand troop championship in Egypt last year and again this year Last year he won the Australian and New Zealand heavy weight championship in Egypt. 4
