CELEBRATION AT WEBBY’S CLUB

Webby’s Club * celebrated its' first Half-yearly anniversary this weekend. ft was established six months ago for the entertainment of men of the fighting services. The usual crowd of dancers attended Friday night’s dance and Saturday marked the anniversary.

Girl members and men were present in large numbers and the clubroom was transformed with a canopy of streamers in the club colours, bur-

gundy blue and buff. On the stage the picture which had been donated of His Majesty the King held pride of place. Novelty dances and floor shows were enjoyed, including a hula number, at the conclusion of which the dancers decorated some of the boys with leis. Mrs. Fairhall was solo dancer. Keith Morrison gave songs.

It had been intended by the club on Saturday night to hand over a cheque toward'the rehabilitation fund, as the actual purpose of the club is to assist in the rehabilitating of the returned men. This part of the programme had to be postponed, however, as Colonel Cowles, to whom,, as. the club’s* friend, the cheque was to be handed, was unable to be present.

Shoulder sprays were presented to Mrs. Webb and to Mrs. Toop, chairman of the committee. The usual tea and dancing were enjoyed yesterday, when Maori members of the forces gave much appreciated items.
