FOUR AWARDS MADE

Dominion Royal Naval Volunteer Reservists CHANNEL CONVOYS Members of the New Z Zealand Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve have received the following awards: — D.S.O. to Commander Ralph Newman, for courage and devotion to duty in Channel convoys. D.S.C. to Lieutenant-Commander Phillip George Connolly and Lieutenant Peter Phipps. D.S.M. to Telegraphist James L. Leckie. ; All four men were members of the main R.N.V.R draft sent from New Zealand. Commander Newman was commanding officer in the Canterbury division of the R.N.V.R. Lieutenant-Commander Connolly was a senior lieutenant-commander in the Otago division. He is a Dunedin city councillor, having been granted leave of absence. Lieutenant Phipps is a Wellington man. He served in the Navy Office as a member of the naval staff before going overseas. Telegraphist Leckie was a member of the Otago division of the R.N.V.R.
