CHINESE HOSTESSES

Soldiers’ Tea At Y.M.C.A. At the weekly tea for soldiers held at the Wellington YjM.C.A. headquarters last night, the hostesses were members of the New Zealand Chinese Association. The secretary of the association, Mr. W. Wah, speaking on behalf of the central executive, stressed the importance of SinoBritish - understanding and fellowship, and expressed a hope that the good feeling engendered by this occasion would prove a valuable stone in the monument of Sino-British understanding, and that the troubled times through which their nations were now passing would bring in their wake, among other benefits, everlasting Sino-British friendship. He concluded by thanking the Y.M.C.A. women who had kindly made the preparations for the tea. Wing Commander White, Officer Commanding the R.N.Z.A.F. Station, Bongotai, spoke appreciatively of the Chinese nation, and also of the enjoyable evening that they had tendered to the members of the Navy, Army and Air Force. A representative of the three arms of the service spoke spontaneously and appreciatively of the kindly action of the Chinese association in providing such a fine tea, and also expressed appreciation of the war work of the Y.M.C.A. Special guests included Mr. and'Mrs. E. Yen, ’Mr. and Mrs. W. Kwok, Mr. and Mrs. H. Wong, Mr. Joe King, Miss Young, Miss Wong Too and Mrs. White.
