Promoted To Be Squadron Leader
Flight Lieutenant A. C. Deere; D.F.C., with bar, has been promoted to Squadron Leader, according to cabled advice received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Deere, Plymouth' Street, Wanganui. ~ He was awarded the D.F.C. in June for flying exploits in France, ; during which he ’ shot down five planes. In August Squadron Leader Deere was 'awarded a bar to his D.F.C. .This was after he had rammed Messerschmitt 10!) in a dog-fight. / Squadron Leader Deere’s . Machine caught fire, and he •rushed in a field, escaping with bruises, hits and' slight burns. Squadron Leader Deere was born in Auckland and educated at the Wanganui Marist Brothers’ School and the Wanganui Technical College. He joined the R.A.F. in 1937. He is a keen boxer and middleweight champion of the’ Army, Xavy-ail'd Air Force. He has three 'brother's in the services,' Brian Deere, with the Second N.Z.E.F. in the Middle East, James Deere, in the Army, and Kevin Deere, in the Royal Navy.. |
