TROOPS AT WAIOURU

Further Equipment Issued

WAIOURU, January 12.

This morning all troops at Waiouru military camp paraded for a short address by the Chief of.. the General Staff, Major-General Sir John Duigan.

The afternoon’s operations were held up by rain. Practically the only activity was the issuing of further equipment.

The Wellington men have been moved from their temporary quarters gave each man a good opportunity of getting to know the rest of his tent. They are going, to be his tent mates for the next three months. Mess tables have also been permanently assigned and orderlies arranged. There will now be no need to get a . meal over (prickly so as not to be left with the jon of the men’s orderly.

During the day, those who had not already been shown were taught the regulation method of folding blankets, greatcoats and tunics.

Yesterday's battalion which arrived j at the camp in provisional travelling companies was sorted out into its components. It produced postmen, bricklayers, telegraphists, plumbers, draughtsmen and many other skilled men. The officers had only to ! name any trade and men experienced in it stepped forward. There seemed no limit to the battalion’s capabilities. In the afternoon, artillerymen from Wellington arrived and were installed in huts, to the envy of their tented comrades in arms.
