SPINSTERS' CLUB

Christmas Party for Men of the Forces

On Sunday the Spinsters’ Club, Wellington, held its Christmas party for men of the fighting services. There was the usual large attendance, nearly 350 men attending besides a full muster of club members and other visitors. The clubrooms were attractively decorated, with a silver tinsel-covered Christmas tree holding pride of place in one corner. Streamers made a canopy for the ceiling and the words “A Merry Christmas” and “Happy New Year” greeted guests on either side of the room. f t

Ices were served during the afternoon and a special tea was served later. Members and some of the visitors brought small gifts for the men, and these, attractively wrapped in festive paper and tinsel string, were given out after tea. A genial Father Christmas (Mr. Akroyd) presided over this and also at the ceremony of carrying in the lighted Christmas pudding. Mistletoe hung invitingly from doorways and other vantage points and added a further touch to the party atmosphere. Misses Florence Henderson and Mavis Hodson again provided a? programme of musical items which were much enjoyed.

“The world is still paying for the war of 1914,” remarks an economist. In spite of the fact that we’re not using it any more.
