Lord and Lady Galway At A.N.A. Club

REPRESENTATIVE GATHERING

The official opening of the new A.N.A. Club in Wellington was performed by his Excellency the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, on Saturday night. Lady Galway also attended. Mrs. P. Fraser,' wife of the Prime Minister, the mayor and mayoress of Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop, patrons of the club, as well as representatives of the Government departments and the Army and Navy were present.

Their Excellencies, who were accompanied by Chptain Lord Dormer, were received in the lounge, where members of the club executive and the women’s committee were presented to them. The ballroom where the ceremony took place, was crowded with men of the three services and girls -of the club. The -club chairman, Captain F. E. Baillie, extended a special welcome to men of the fourth reinforcements, and said he hoped all the boys of the fighting services would look on the club as a home.

It was a great day for the Army. Navy and Air Force Club, said the mayor, Mr. Hislop. It had been started at the beginning of the war and had served a good purpose in entertaining the men on leave. He called for three cheers for all who were doing such excellent work at the club by helping in such a variety of ways and in creating a splendid fellowship among members of the forces.

Though we were living ij grim and serious times, said Lord" Galway, re laxation provided in the right way was essential if we were to pass into a per-

iod of brighter times in the future. With Lady Galway lie wished the club all good fortune, and hoped that all who entered the rooms -would spend happy hours. To those ‘who would be going along to reinforce their com rades already on service, he would give a message to pass on; that New Zealand was sound to the core and was in this business wholeheartedly. All were doing their bit sincerely. Lord Galway was heartily cheered on rising to speak.

Later, their Excellencies, with members of the official; party were entertained at supper in the lounge.
