EVERYMAN’S APPRECIATED BY Ist ECHELON

The following is a letter received by Mr. Gordon Blair, Officer in Charge of Everyman’s Hut, from a member of the First Echelon, one of the many who appreciate the . excellent work that Mr. Blair and his associates are doing for our soldier boys:— A short note in a big hurry to let you know though we may now be many miles away from Everyman’s Hut, Eric, George, Les and I have not forgotten the good times we had with you at Trentham Camp. We are a few thousand miles away from all that in person,. but believe me the welcome smile you gave us- every time we poked our noses.in has not been forgotten. For. future troops following us you might tell them from our experience the accommodation on board is marvellous, food grand, and we are being treated as first class passengers. Tobacco is Bd. per 2oz. tin, cigarettes 7d. for’ 20, etc. The ship we’re on is a beaut., air conditioned throughout, and plenty of ice water — including beer off the ice. We also have about 100 Chinese “boys” on board to look after us and mess orderlies are a thing of the past—fatigues likewise. Well, Gordon, I’ll close, wishing you and your associates every success in your movement and accept our appreciation for the good times you gave us, and if you can keep in touch with us from time to time your letters would be well looked forward to.
