GALLANT CONDUCT
Award Of D.F.C. To New Zealand Airman
NORTH SEA PATROL WORK
Advice has been received of the award for gallant conduct of the Dis iinguished Flying Cross to Pilot Offi cer G. W. F. Carey, Christchurch, who
is now in the Royal Air Force in England, and who has been engaged in patrol work over the North Sea.
His father, Mr. W. R. Carey, man ager of the Kaiapoi Woollen Manufacturing Company, Ltd., received the following cablegram : —“Stockton-on-Tees. January 12. The station commander and officer commanding the squadron offer most sincere congratulations on the award today to your son of the Distinguished Flying Cross for gallant conduct.—Pauli, Squadron 220,”
Pilot Officer Carey began his training. at Wigram Aerodrome two years ago, and has been with the Royal Air Force for 12 months. At first he was stationed at Thornley, . being engaged principally in navigation. Then he was navigation officer at Thornaby, and the last advice received by his family was that he was transferred to the North Sea patrol as a pilot.
