GIVE GOD A CHANCE.
The above heading attracted our eye when iuoking o\er one of our exchanges, and set us thinking as to the meaning of it, and as to how we were to give (iod a chance. We went to the lhble, and found there how often Clod's work was delayed tvecause His workers would not allow Hun to use them. “Jesus could not do many works there because of their unbelief.” Man’s un!>elief denied J**sus the chance to do many mighty works. Again, as the Master wept over Jerusalem because they would not give Him the chance to save them from the dreadful siege and the dispersion throughout all the world. For years we have been refusing to give <lod a chance to rid us of the Liquor Trade. We pray “Thy Kingdom Come." Is there anything which so delays the coming of that Kingdom as the licensed liquor trade? The abolition of the Liquor Trade lies at the root of all reforms. Slowly it is poisoning the race, defacing the image of the Divine in man. “Man is an angel astride an animal.” Alcohol debases the angel and rouses all the animal. I'.khj must be our year of victory. The Brewer is reaching out his grim hand to snatch our lx>ys and girls. Christian women, are you going to give (lod a chance to save those children? The W.C.T.IT. should a loud call to arms. Our homes are invaded. The Onion gathers together Christian women from all churches. In our
ranks they should get education Mid inspiration, and take them each one to tlie women of their own church Give God a chance by yielding ourselves wholly to Him for service. We lament the drinking among the young. Don't stop with grieving, or even with passing pious resolutions be up and DOING. Gi\e God a chance by believing that lie can and lb* will aholi h this evil. Let our Convention meet with the certainty of success. In the words of Miss Willard, “Tall* abolition, pray abolition, think abolition, until abolition is in the air, and all are waiting and expecting it.” We have asked every I'nion to aim at live new subscribers for our official organ. What a demonstration at Convention it every delegate should win that decoration, and it is possible. 1-low it would fire enthysiasm, and send each one home to work, pray, and believe for victory. White Ribbon sisters, give God His chance to take away the shadow of the Brewery from over our youth. What mighty works our God could do for o’ir land with a consecrated womanhood! Think upon it as you stand beneath our lovely starlit sky within sight of the ocean which surrounds us, and lift your heart in prayer. Can you not hear, falling from the serene ether, the voice of the Master, “I would. I’ve been waiting to give you peace and purity and freedom. But ye will not.” Then answer, “Yea, Lord, we will.” S. I>. Gordon has said: “I’rayer does not change God's purpose, but it does
change His actions, because He works through our human consent. He needs us far more than we have ever guessed or suspected -the man on his knees, or the one who is praying in his whole life, gives God the opportunity of doing as otherwise He could not do. I'layer changes God's actions, because it gives Him an open way into our lives, and through our lives to those whom we love.”
