The White Ribbon. For God and Home and Humanity. WELLINGTON, JULY 18, 1924. “GET BUSY.”
Swiftly time is passing by. and shortly we shall be on the eve of an other poll. Are we making ready for the coming campaign? Are we bright ening our armour and sharpening our swords, so that all may be ready? Our I'nions are doing good work, better perhaps than they realise, in the ‘'White Ribbon” drive. Every place should be canvassed for subscribers, and, whenever possible, new members should be gained. The best work you can do for the next poll is to increase our own membership. Every member
of our Union is pledged to total abstinence, and what an influence these voters and workers will be in the coming campaign! The N.Z. Alliance is making a great forward move for new members. Their pledge is not a total abstinence pledge; it is only a pledge to work for Prohibition. Sometimes, when our White Kibboners are canvassing for W.C.T.U. members, they meet with women who believe in Prohibition, but who won’t give up their wine until it is the law of the land. Such women can become members of the N.Z. Alliance, but not members of the W.C.T.U. If the Alliance can link up the manhood of New Zealand into a fighting force for Prohibition as the W.C.T.U. is doing with the womanhood, then these two great forces, moving side by side, will sweep the liquor trade from the Dominion at the next poll. Get busy! Link up with us every woman who sympathises with our cause. United, we are a tremendous force. The work among the young is peculiarly womens work. Let us not negleet it. Our organisation is perfect, only every Union must organise. First,' we get the baby on the Cradle Roll, its mother promises to bring it up an abstainer. Then we keep in touch with these babies, and pass them on to our L.T.L.’s. From the L.T.L. they graduate into our Young People's Unions. All the way our Mother’i Union should help and encourage them. The work is urgent. Do it now*. Miss no opportunity of making a con vert. Head and train yourself that you may lead others. It is personal effort that will win the victory for us. Bv«*r bear in mind that every woman you can get as a member of the W.C.T.U. becomes a personal abstainer, and a sure vote for Prohibition, and we are out for votes. Move to the fore. Say not another is fitter than thou; Shame to thy shrinking. Up! face thy task now; Own thyself equal to all a soul may. Cease thy evading, God needs thee today! Move to the fore! Move to the fore! God Himself waits, and must wait till you come;
Men are God’s prophets, though m lie dumb; Halts the Christ-kingdom with conqui so near, Thou art the cause, then, thou soul the rear. Move to the fore!”
