REPORT OF THE SUB COMMITTEE RE SUPERANNATION SCHEME FOR EMPLOYEES OF THE W.C.T.U.
We have the honour to present the following report re Superannuation Scheme for employees of the W.C.T.I . We made enquiries from the Government I.ife Insurance, and from the A.M.l*. in the hop*' that it might be possible to take out F.ndowment Polities. The necessity for medical examination of the assured, and for keeping in touch with employees until the policies matured, even when they were no longer in the service of the Union, rendered this method impracticable. On enquiry from the Government National Provident Fund, we found that this afforded the means most likely to set ure the end in view. According to this scheme, pensions varying from 1 os to 40s a week c an be sc< ured at bo years of age by the payment of a weekly contribution ranging from od to iqs Bd. according to the age <>f the employee when first contiibution is made. The following conditions apply: 1. The age of the contributor must be between 16 and 4f when first con tribution is made. 2. Should an employee, few whom < ontributions were being made, withdrawn from the service of the Union, the money already paid in could citlici be returned to the Union, without in tercst, or could be used for securing * pension for another employee. Similarly in the case of the death of an employee. The benerts cannot, however, be transferred from one employee to the
other, except in the way just mentioned We understand that many societies and employers in different parts of the Dominion have taken advantage of the Government National Provident Fund to secure jx'nsions and other benefits for their employees. NF.LI.IK BENDF.LY, KATE M. EVANS, Sub-Committee for Superannuation Scheme.
