WORK AND PRAY. One of our faithful workers sends the following incident, which we pass on for the encouragement of others:— 1 want to tell you of a wonderful answer to prayer w hich we my husband and I have received lately. A fine young man in tins town, during the last
few months, became a victim to the drink curse—neglected his business, and caused infinite sorrow and anxiety to I his wife and old widowed mother. My husband pleaded with him several times, and finally got him to sign a written declaration that lie would try, by Divine assistance, to never touch intoxicating liquor again. We resolved to pray for him, and told him we would do so, and now we are rejoicing over a complete transformation in him. He says he has mastered the craving, and is determined never to let it have the mastery over him again. It seems all the more wondeiful because of the measures used beforehand to try and induce him to overcome it. Friends and relatives inter vened, his wife and mother wept and intreated, secret cures were administered ; he wrote and signed declarations himself never to touch it again, only to break them next day ; everything was tried except prayer, and with this blessed result that he is now treading the palh of sobriety and temperance, and determined to keep therein. O the blessed j>ower of prayer. O the divine sweetness of the answers. How can we ever doubt, or ever fail in our petitions, when we are so fully supplied by Him, Who loves to answer our prayers. Tell the dear sisters always to pray on, and cease not, and in due season they shall reap if they faint not.
