Members of the Union will he pleased to t*come acquainted, through the medium of our front page, with Miss Hughes, who has hern appointed by the N. Z. W.C.T.U. to do the work of an organising agent in the North Island during the next few months Miss Hughes is by no means a novice in Temperan e work. For some years she has been an active and ardent supporter of various organisations in Auckbr.d which have as their object the inculcation of Temperance sentiment and the destruction of the drink traffic, and prior to both the 1899 and 1900 elections she was engaged in canvassing and addressing public meetings in the Auckland electorates. On the platforms of both Temperance society and Christian Church Miss Hughes has proved herself an effective speaker. We may, therefore, assuredly look for hopeful results from her work in the northern part of the colony. Miss Hughes l>egan her work on July Ist, and as travelling in country districts during the winter months is not alti'gether a joy, we bespeak for her the practical sympathy of all who may find it in their power to render aid.
