STANDING COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the above was held at the Bishop's residence on Friday, 21st June. After prayers, -Mr. J. B. Fielder proposed,- and Rev. C. L. Tuke seconded,, the . following motion : — " This -Committee desires to place upon record the deep loss the Church has sustained by the death of the Venerable Archdeacon Samuel Williams, and is convinced that his many acts of benevolence and kindness to our own and other churches, institutions, and people of .other denominations m this and other dioceses throughout the world, will ever keep his memory green." "That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his family."— Carried, all standing.

The Diocesan Treasurer read list of parishes and districts who had not paid their assessment nor contributed anything to the Church Society. . He stated' he had sent out the circular as per fol. 238 of the minute-book to all parishes and districts on the sth ult. Resolved, "That the Secretary' circularise districts and parishes stating that owing to formation of new districts requiring grants m aid of stipends, and the lax support given to the funds of the Church Society, the committee regret that 'it may be forced to reduce the amount of grants-in-aid hitherto voted unless an augmentation of the said funds is made." Mr Fielder stated that as one of the representatives from this diocese at the last session of the General Synod he had given notice of motion for a grant-in- aid of new See House of £.1.00 for £300 to be raised. The had consulted him as to a vote of £150 for £400 to be raised. He had agreed to- this. A recommendation was made accordingly, and adopted by the Synod.— Action approved, and steps be taken to raise the £400.
