TAURANGA

The Rev. John Tamahori, one of the five deacons who were ordained

at the beginning of the year, is getting a good hold of the work m the Tauranga district. He is attached to the staff of the parish church under the Rev. O. S. O. Gibson, and devotes the greater part of his "time to the work amongst the Maoris m and around Tauranga. He has also visited Matakana and Motiti Islands, where a number of Maoris are engaged m farming and the growing of maize and kumeras. rMiss Birley has organised a splendid freewill offering scheme, by which she asks each Church of England Maori family to contribute four shillings a month. She has undertaken to go round each month and collect the subscriptions, and m this way has already assured an income of fifty pounds a year towards the pastorate fund.
