At the annual meeting of Parishioners, the Churchwarden's report, showed that the credit balance of £65 the previous year had been reduced to £18. In view of the fact that the Otane Church needs painting and the Vicarage needs repairs, the Vestry has decided to make a Sunday m the Autumn a Day of Thanksgiving, to provide funds for the purpose. Mr Athol Williams proposed that,, since the parish had raised the sum of £294 for Missions, thus considerably exceeding its quota of £260, our Synodsman should ask for the quota to be raised to £350. The Vicar suggested that £325 would be sufficient this year, but the mover and seconder, felt that it was good to have a high ideal, even though we might not reach it, and the motion was carried. Our branch of the Mothers' Union invited the Waipukurau and Pukehou; branches to a garden party at the Vicarage on October 29th, when nearly 60 mothers were present. The day was gloriously fine, but a little too warm for hard- worked mothers to be very energetic m entering competitions. However, many of the visitors expressed their pleasure and gratitude for a very enjoyable afternoon. It had been proposed to hold a Choir Festival at Otane, the affiliated choirs of the School of English Church Music participating, but, owing to unforseen difficulties, the idea has had to be abandoned, this year.
