BOARD OF MISSIONS NOTES.

The result of the yearly operations has been to supply the Board with £ 14,424 for what is called Budget purposes, i.e., the amount required for the support of the six co-ordinated missions. This sum is £295 more than the amount received under this itom last year, a result for which all friends will thank God. The^ amount raised for special purposes this year ;also shows an increase, the chief item being- £1408 raised for the "Patteson" fund, m connection with the Melanesian Mission. The N.Z.C.M.S. 'were fortunate enough this year to receive some small legacies, making their "designated" item up to £439, and the total under this heading ("designated for special purposes") received by the board this year is £1848. This is an increase; of £1698 i>ver last year. A third item showing an increase is that named "Grants from, the H. and W. Williams' Memorial Trust." This good friend of all missionary causes gave to the Bqard's ■co-ordinated missions this year the sum of £1312 10s, an increase of £437 over last year. The. total sum from all sources received by the board this year is £17,927, which is an increase of £2615 over last year. At a ■time when prosperity is but beginning .to ease the difficulty pf the last few

years, £here is much m these increases to gladden our hearts. The board hopes that all parishes will begin the work for the new year straight away without leaving any interval of inactivity. Though the past year has been satisfactory, as indicated above, it must be acknowledged that a great deal of help has come from those parishes which may be described as "willing horses," and there are some who could help them better if they were better organised, or if they began their efforts earlier m the year. It is hoped that the value of the double envelope system and the use of boxes, whether m the home or m churches, or alternatively helping by bazaars and so forth will be taken m hand straight away m parishes where these helps do not exist. To begin work early for another prosperous year is perhaps the best way we can show our thanks to God. for His help during the past.
