HOLY TRINITY CHURCH, GISBORNE.
Vicar: Rev. Canon H. Packe, M.A., The members of Holy Trinity Girls' Club have had several enjoyable evenings lately. Miss Ada Perry, the Y.W.C.A. secretary for Grisborne, gave tshe girls a most interesting talk one evening on her experiences at the Pan Pacific Conference of Women at Honolulu. Another evening, Sister Leiipst of Cook Hospital, gave an instructive talk on "Health." The members have also had a very jolly games evening. The programme of the club meetings al'yays opens with a Bible class conducted by Deaconess. A very impres-
sive memorial service to the late Lady Carroll, was held m the parish church on November 9, the preacher being the Bishop of Aotearda (his sermon is printed m this paper). The Vicar conducted 1 Evensong. The big church was crowded with members of both races. The late Heni Materoa (Lady Carroll) was held m high respect by Maoris and Pakehas throughout New Zealand. Her funeral was one of the largest seen m Gfisborne. A reverent crowd of people lined the streets as the cortege passed to Makaraka ceme- , tery, headed by the city band playing the "Dead March" m Saul. At the graveside, the Maori women mourners, their heads wreathed m willow greeted the arrival of the casket. Our Vicar assisted the Bishop of Aotearoa m the service, and several Maori clergy were also present. The casket covered with beautiful kiwi mats was committed to the family vault beside her late husband. Heni Materoa will long be remembered for her kindly Christian character, and her generosity to both races. May she rest m peace, and let Light Eternal shine upon her. The usual service was held at the Wayside Cross m the parish Church ground on Armistice Day, the Vicar giving an impressive address to the large congregation present. We are looking forward to the visit of our missioner m the Autumn, and preparation for it has been already begun at the midweekly intercession service. May the convention be a time of very real blessing to us all. We are grieved to hear of our Bishop's indisposition and trust that he will soon be restored to health again. His visit to us is postponed to a later date. Everyone is working very hard for the Church Fair to be held on November 29, when we hope that the funds of the Church will be greatly increased.
