SPECIAL WAR-TIME APPEAL for GIRL MUNITION WORKERS.
The Girls' Friendly Society, like every other. Association of the kind, has during this war time had many demands made upon its resources to. help the girls thrown by the changed conditions of ; » life
and work into an absolutely different environment. Great masses of them called to work for the Government m the various large industrial centres are constantly faced with the inability to find proper housing accommodation. At. the moment the G.F.S. is being urgently requested to help, and direct appeals have been received from several places which are centres of munition work. The Society' aims at raising a special War Time Fund for house accommodation, clubs, recreation rooms, and restaurants, and asks a generous public to entrust it with ,£IO,OOO for these purposes. Anyone who contributes may 1 be assured that the money will be wisely and economically expended, and devoted entirely to the purpose for which it is given. The G.F.S. recognises the splendid work done by the Y.W.C.A. and other bodies. But the present urgent need is a call to mobilise all the forces of the Societies interested m the welfare of girls. We desire to help m this crisis by enlarging the sphere and possibilities of our own Lodges, which are well 1 nown all over the country as real homes for girls, and are open not cnly to our own members, which number over 200,000 m the United Kingdom, but also to any girls who may be needing such help as the Lodges can give. At Woolwich a house has been taken m a pleasant, quiet street, not far from the Arsenal, and another is available if funds are immediately forthcoming. Contributions may be sent to the Secretary, G.F.S. Central Office, 39, Victoria Street, London, S.AV. (Cheques should be drawn to " The Secretary, Girls' Friendly Society," and crossed " London Jo ; nt Stock Bank, Limited.") (Signed)— ELEANOR J. CHUTE, G.F.S. Central President. W. W. WILLESDEN, Chairman of Finance Committee. W. AUSTEN LEIGH, Honorary Treasurer. J. V. ELLIOTT TAYLOR, Chairman of Central Lodges Fund Committee. The following letter has been received from the Minister of Munitions :— '

To the Secretary of the Girls' Friendly Society. — Dear Madam, I anl very glad to hear that the Girls' Friendly Society is setting to work to provide lodgings for the large and increasing number of women and girls employed m making munitions at Woolwich, and other munition areas, and that the lodgings are to be available at rates suited to the workers' means.
