S. Augustine's, Napier.

Vicar: Rev. Canon Tuke.

Half the Parish seems to be absent on holiday. Many have gone to Auckland, and many others are camping out nearer homo. The "holiday season " congregation is very evident from its thinness. A good many m camp could and should come at least once on Sunday and not neglect their Celebrations and other services as they are doing. The Sunday School has kept up well m attendance during the month ; quite half the scholars have been present. We are hoping to hear the rerult» of the late examination soon. All parishioners and especially parents are requested to give a donation to the Annual Sunday School Picnic which will be held on Wednesday, February 4th. G-iven a fine day we hope again to spend a hard but enr joyable day's work m the old camping ground at Farndon Park. We are always pleased to have our parents and friends with us. We shall leave by the 9.25 train and return to town before six o'clock. Hot water for picnic parties will be provided as usual. The heat on several Sundays during this month has been very trying. An electric fan or two m the Schoolroom and two large ones m the Chancel and body of the Church would allow our teachers and children to sit m comfort ; and the congregation and choir to feel less frowsy and overcome by ■ tfte thick

atmosphere. We must endeavour to put the electric light all through the Church if we want the building to be cooler. Ths Choir and teachers have responded well to their duty's call under very trying circumstances. The Vicar and Mrs Tuke had the pleasure of entertaining the Choir and Teachers at supper m the Troca•derq rooms. Several were unfortunately unable to be present, but some t w © n ty to thirty sat down and after a pleasant chat toasts were proposed to the Vicar and Mrs Tuke and to the Choir and Teachers. At a G. F. S. Committee meeting Miss White presented her report and balance sheet for the year's work. These were very encouraging. The Branch has about £28 to its sick fund credit, and about £6 or £7 general funds. We all felt that this happy state of finance was due to Miss White's able and energetic efforts. The meeting unanimously requested her to keep on her good work, and re-elected Her secretary. Miss Mannering has most kindly unr •dertaken to take the candidates Class this next season. We have an admission service during Lent and the usual social after Easter. In saying farewell to Bishop and Mrs Ayerill we cannot be too thankful for the interest they have taken and the help they have given to the G.F.S. and Moth3rs' Union during their four years' residence here. It is gratifying to know that their valued efforts will be carried on by the Bishop Elect, Canon Sedgwick, who is also with Mrs Sedgwick a keen advocate and worker for both and all kindred organisations. The I>ioces3 is making arrangements for tents, lights, and seats to equip the C.E.M.S. work arapng the territorials m the big camps to be held from time to time. We regret to hear o" Mrs Pearson, a devoted Church woman and high respected, lying very ill m the hospital. Mrs Sinclair, who was so dangerously "ill, is we are glad to state recovering her strength. We Tiope to hear good news of Selwyn Averill who had to undergo an operation at the Private Hospital m George Street. Our sincere sympathies go out to the Bishop and Mrs Averill m their boy's illness, and look for a speedy recovery. BAPTISMS.
