S. Augustine's, Napier.

Vicar: Rev. Canon Tuke. Curate: Rev. G. L. Wilson. Since our last issue, the Sunday school annual outing to Farndon Park was successfully carried out. The arrangements, including the important commissariat department, were under the capable supervision of our good secretary, Mr. T. Ballot, whose long, experience ought, to make him worth looking after by the Territorials as a commissariat officer. There would be no growling about insufficient or bad tucker.! His fellow; teachers, too, know something ■about cutting sandwiches for three hundred children. The day was an ideal one. The sports were well contested ; cricket, rounders, and races all found supporters. The teachers' race and the married women's race were . strenuous and exciting. Mr. Dine is another who deserves a long-service medal for his faithful carting, and for providing the army of teapots with hot water. Our curate, Mr. Wilson, after three months' absence on duty at Tauranga, and after travelling for two days, arrived m time to witness the proceedings, and to receive a welcome from the Vicar, teachers, and many parishioners present. Mr. Wilson has had a varied experience of a Vicar's trials at Tauranga, where he has done good work as acting V^car. We were favoured with the presence of our Bishop on the first Sunday m Lent, when he gave a thoughtful and helpful sermon on "Man ' shall not live by bread alone." There was a very large congregation, which was nearly as large the following Sunday evening, when Archdeacon Uthwatt preached an interesting sermon on "Melanesian Life." He got the children's attention m the afternoon Sunday school, and as an outcome of his visit the school will give ££> a year to Melanesia, as well as their usual contribution of £5 to> Ne^r Guinea. '

On the Monday, evening some 200 people got thoroughly interested m the talk on the mission given by the Archdeacon, and illustrated by some line and rare curios from 1 the islands. As a result, the Vicar invites all who were touched by the Archdeacon's story to take a missionbox, whicn they can earmark lor Melanesia entirely if they desire to do so. The C.E.M.S. men listened with much interest to Archdeacon Ruddock, who came by request to give an account of the late Conference m Kelson. The small attendance of our members was disappointing, and we regret they were not present to hear the lucid account by the Archdeacon who most kindly came to speak to us. .Every member should make a point of attending the fortnightly meetings, or send a reasonable excuse for unavoidable absence. We earnestly ask all our members to make our branch meetings a real help, by their keen interest m them. The choir is urgently needing .more soprano voices, some members are still away on holiday, but we need four or live good useful voices, sopranos and altos. We welcome to our ranks Messrs. Rhodes and Hill, and another well-known tenor we hope will join us soon. The few gins who are so loyal m attendance have sung remarkably well. The boys who wish to join must attendregularly or leave the choir alone. We need two more teachers m our school. Here is a splendid work for any whole-hearted Church man or Church woman. Who will volunteer ? We are sorry to have to lose Mrs. Collins, so long the respected President of our Guild, who is leaving Napier soon. Mrs. Collins has worked very hard and faithfully for the Church, and will carry away the very best wishes of the Vestry and parishioners with her. Mr. Collins has always been very ready to- help with his band, and we shall miss the valued help they have both given so willingly and so well. Our many Church attendants will much regret to hear of Mr. Wood, of Latham street, being laid up at the Hospital, where a dangerous operation was skilfully performed last week. The prayers of his : fellow C.E.M.S. men and his many friends will be earnestly offered for his restoration. BAPTISMS. " Suffer little Children to come unto Me, and forbid them not." Harold Eaton Ivan Reaney. Frank Howard James. George Godfrey Hutchinson. Florence Winifred Player. Dexter Langman Bate. Rachael Herdman. Mabel Pottle. Colin Arthur Philpott.

1 MARRIAGES. [ " Heirs together of the Grace of Life." Victor Rudolph Johnson to Violet Constance Johnston. Wilfred John Fraser to Edith Ella Burton. Arthur Bryan Taylor to Minnie Margaret Parkinson.
