BUILDING NOTES.

The new building erected for the " Taranaki Herald," and " Budget," in Currie street, New Plymouth, has two floors, with a frontage to the street of 36ft and a depth of about 70ft. The front of the structure is broken by eight single windows, the entrance being at the side.

The Hokitika Harbour Board timber reserves, estimated at 28,300 acies, were sold lately by public tender, Messrs. Butler Bros , of Naumai, Auckland being the successful tenderers at £28,300 It is the intention of the purchasers to take prompt steps to utilise the splendid standing timber, which is adjacent to the Ross Railway line, and so carry on an extensive export trade

Messrs Russell and Bignell, of Wanganui, who are the contractors for the election of the Waikato Hospital, at Hamilton, have the work well on the way This hospital is to be built on the most modern lines, with special attention to sanitary requirements and ventilation The whole building will be of brick, with cement facings while the internal work is to be finished with Keen's cement The operating room will be a special feature and is to be fitted up on the most modern hnes The contractors expect to have the work completed m about twelve months' time. The contract price is £16,000.
