Extracts from VICTORIA POLICE GAZETTE
[From Victoria, Police Gazette , 30th March. 1865.
Robert Shiel, late manager of the Plantaganet Gold Mining Company, Pitfield, is charged, on warrant, with embezzlement. He is aged about 35, 5 feet 10 inches high, 12 1 stone ■ weight, fresh but freckled complexion, large full grey eyes, thick sandy hair inclined to curl, long sandy whiskers, large round head, long features, , high forehead, heavy eyebrows, and straight nose, wore new grey tweed suit, and brown billycock hat. He was seen at Sand ridge on the 18th instant, and is supposed to be endeavouring to get to New Zealand or Queensland. 28th March, 1855.
[From Victoria Police Gazette , 20th July, 1865.] Description of a conditionally pardoned prisoner, discharged from the penal establishment, Melbourne : Charles Morgan alias Burns , alias Morgan the Friar alias • Graham, . alias Henry M\'Lean, tried at Melbourne, 15th September, 1862, for assault and robbery, sentenced to 5 years roads; a native of Liverpool, a. tailor, born 1826, 5 feet ' inches high, sallow complexion, grey hair, hazel eyes, medium nose, mouth, and chin; Nimrod to Sydney, 1849, free; ■ scar under right of chin, spear mark right shoulder, flower-pot right fore-arm, flower back of right hand, blue rings on left fingers.'. Conditional pardon, dated 27th June, 1865, granted by His Excellency Sir Charles H. Darling, to leave the Colony in one month from date. [See Victoria Police Gazette , 1862, page 285.]
