Concert and Dance at Hikutaia

... \ (From our Thames correspondent.) November 6. Last evening a very successful concert and dance was held in Hikutaia. The function was to provide funds to enable a Benediction service to be purchased for the Hikutaia Church. Rev. Father O’Carroll was the organiser. The senior performers at the Thames bazaar journeyed, out by motor , and repeated their items. Miss Mavis Morgan, of Auckland, one of Miss Beresford’s pupils, and a very clever dancer,, assisted. Songs were contributed by Misses. Morgan and Gilmour, Messrs. G. Jenkin, Sutherland, Me- ' Ilvride, and E. Harold. • “The Outlaws,” which was the final ■ feature, was very well staged, the costumes being beautiful. The chief parts were as follows; —“Chief of the .Outlaws,” Mr. Emet Harold; “The Princess,” Miss E. Gil- ill mow; “The Chief’s "Wife,” Miss L. Taylor; “The Captive,” Miss Ryan; “The Captive Dancer,” Miss Mavis Morgan; and sixteen “outlaws.” The frequent and prolonged ap- . plause testified to the excellence of the programme. After the concert the performers were entertained at the Pioneer Hotel by ■Mrs. Corbett. • ;.■■■?■ During the supper toasts were honored, including “The' Hostess” .(Mrs. Corbett), .proposed by Mr. Emet Harold. Mr. G. Jenkin proposed the toast of Rev, Father O’Carroll*, and Mr. D. Rockley that of the Misses Beresford. Mr. Jenkin, who, though not one of our Faith, gave every assistance during the bazaar and again at the concert, deserved a word of thanks, and Father O’Carroll proposed a toast to him and his wife. After a very enjoyable time, the performers left for Thames amid hearty cheers. < v / J : --W A ’ None should dwell too deeply on the past-full of mistakes, regrets, and might-have-beens. By so doing the mind. grows ' limp and discouraged, and the soul’s energy is dulled;—Aster.
