(From our own correspondent.) . October 20. V’ The air is full of Food Fair and next Saturday, the 27th, will find us in possession of St. Mary’s grounds and anyone found thereon. The various stall-holders .are working very hard, and, given a fine day, we should do well. Congratulations to Mr. Martin Kiely of the Post and Telegraph Department, who has been promoted to the Taihape office after many years here. Mr. and Mrs. Kiely and little son went off to their new home a few weeks ago. Constable McMullan, too, who has been doing duty here for a number 'of years, is under instructions to move on, and goes to Taupo as officer in charge there. Mr. and Mrs. McMullan and the family of two fine little sons will be leaving for the new district any time now. Gonville had another good social the other night, the last, to count for the euchre tournament. The prizes were y won by Mrs. Climo (ladies’ first), and.. Mr. C. : Trainer (gents’ first). This finishes the “points,” and, in a fortnight or so there will be a real big nighty when the prizes .• • 1 for best aggregate will be handed - over to ■ the winners; The committee know vyho these lucky people are, but so far, no little bird has told me their names; Reception at the Sacred Heart Convent on ' Sunday, 23rd September. 'Sisters Damian (White), Hilary (Reynolds), Celestine ’ (Brown), Cuthbert (Cullinane), Felicitas (Garvey), Gonzaga (Coles) receiving the Habit. The ceremony, simple but impressive, was performed by Rev. Father ' ' Mahony, assisted by Father Outtrim, and Father O’Leary preached. The pretty little chapel,beside the Convent was filled with relatives and' interested friends of the newlyreceived Sisters. 'U: The Competitions were brought to a successful finish last week. Naturally, a number of our children and grown- : ups too, competed and got a very fair share of wins. -Fol- , _ lowing are some of their names and doings: Reta . Nolan and Doris Robertson (Sacred Heart Convent) came - first ’and second ''respectively'’ in the piano solo - under 18 years (“Rondo in E Flat”’ Weber). In the piano; duet for the same age, Reta Nolan, Doris . Robertson, Astrid Holst, Elva McDonald and Zilla Haybittle, all Sacred Heart Convent, shared up the first, second and third places between them. The juvenile choir came first in the set piece and own * selection - classes. " The children’s ; chorus . under r ■ 15, they got third place. Recitation for girls under 16, - “To a" Snowflake” (Francis Thompson), May Holden .
