DIOCESE OF DUNEDIN
In connection with the street collection for the fund to establish an institute for the blind, a stand at the Bank of New . Zealand and Government Life Insurance Office, corner of Rattray and Princes Streets, will be occupied on Friday by the members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The "Tom Moore" anniversary concert, under the auspices of the Dunedin Irish Society, was given on Monday evening last, in the Early Settlers' Hall, in the presence of a crowded audience. We are obliged, however, to hold over a more extended notice until next week. An entertainment of unusual interest, organised by the ladies of the Refreshment Stall in connection with the forthcoming fair in aid of the St. Vincent's Orphanage Building Fund, will be given in Burns Hall on next Wednesday evening, June 7. The programme will include dances, ballets, and song scenas by pupils from the Otago School of Dancing, while a number of Dunedin's leading vocalists will also assist. As the object is a most deserving one, this, together with tho high artistic talent appearing, should attract a crowded audience. The members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, South Dunedin, will hold a euchre social in St. Patrick's Schoolroom, on next Tuesday evening, June 6. A feature of the entertainment will be the appearance of Mr. J. Cassidy's quartet party, who will give some new "limericks" of a diverting character., with special allusions to the St. Vincent's Orphanage Fair. A jumble sale in aid of St. Vincent's Orphanage Fund will be held on Friday at the Old Post Office, Princes Street, when a large collection of .wares will be disposed of by the ladies of ..the Refreshment Stall in connection with the projected fair. It is to be hoped the enterprise will be liberally supported, and thus augment the funds of a very pressing undertaking.
