H.A.C.B. SOCIETY, WELLINGTON

The half-yearly meeting of St. Aloysius' branch 11.A.C.8. Society was held hist week, Bro. J. Heavey presiding. Rev. Mark Devoy, branch chaplain, was present together with a good attendance of members. The secretary presented the balance sheet and report which showed the branch to be in a fairly good position, notwithstanding the large number of members either in camp or away with the Expeditionary Forces, there being now over 40 per cent, of members, and from whom no contributions are received whilst away. Feeling reference was made to the deaths on active service of Bros. Bernard Quinn and Valentine Mitchell, who had always taken a keen interest in the work of the branch. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Bro. T. Pender; vice-president, Bro. T. Loughnan: treasurer, Bro. J. Stratford; warden, Bro. J. Wilson: guardian, Bro. J. Duggan : sick visitors, Bros. J. Fagan and J. Heavey : auditors, Bros. J. L. Murphy and G. Carr ; delegate to W.U.F.S. Dispensary Board, Bro. J. Stratford delegate to W.U.F.S. Medical Institute, Bro. J. Fagan : delegates to Catholic Federation, Bios. Heavey and Fagan; members of School Committee, Bros. Giles, Wilson, Stratford, and Gill. The newly elected officers returned thanks, and a vote of thanks was carried to the retiring officers for their past services. The rev. chaplain congratulated the new officers and gave some good advice to 1 members generally. Accounts amounting to £44 9s 6d were passed for payment.
