THE LATE EDITOR OF THE "GREEN RAY"

From Mr. Cummins we have received the following poem, which will please many of our readers. The writer, now in prison for his articles on the Irish question, was born in Naas, Co. Kildare, in 1885. He has seen much of the .world, chiefly as a free-lance journalist, in Ireland, Mexico, and South America. He was educated by the Christian Brothers in Athy. His wife is a County Meath girl. Me asks us to assure all his friends that he is well and happy, and that he regards the brand put upon him by a British Government as a hall-mark on his love for Ireland. A REBEL’S REQUEST. (By Thomas Papuaic Mac Owen Cummins, late Editor The (Jreen Hag.') If I die in exile, Bury me-high On some hill, where the smile Of earth and sky . Meet all around ; Where gaunt old rocks will keep • Their long watch o’er my sleep, And rains the saddest weep Upon the ground. Bury me there, that so Ev’ry long roar Of the ocean below. Smiting the shore, May rise to me ; And weirdly o’er my grave Moan on me, wave and wave— A thousand voices brave From out the sea. But should 1 pass away In dear Ireland, Where rests my mother's clay ’Mid ruins grand. Hoar my request ; Oh, lake me there and hide Me deeply by her side— Beneath the Crucified I’ll be at rest.
