July 9. The Devotion of the Forty Hours’ Adoration was commenced on the first Sunday in July, the Blessed Sacrament being exposed after the 11 o’clock Mass. The celebrant was Rev. Father O’Leary, S.M., assisted by Rev. Father Stewart, S.M. The singing of the Gregorian “Missa de Angelis” by the choir was very devotional. At the offertory, “O Jesu Dens” was effectively sung as a duet by Misses Ferriter and Sims. After High Mass on Tuesday morning the devotion was brought to a close by the singing of the Litany of

On Wednesday evening last a euchre tournament, Waimate versus Morven, was held in St. Patrick’s Clubrooms, and resulted in a win for the former by nine games. The winners of prizes were as follows; Morven, Miss May Breslin and Mr. W. McGrath; Waimate, Miss Garrick and Mr. M. Harney. Mr. E. J. Costello, on behalf of the Morven people, thanked the club for the evening’s entertainment, and expressed the hope that at some future date the Waimate players would go out to Morven and “play them on their own ground.” The proceeds go towards the Morven Convent funds.
