WEDDING BELLS

BURGESS—RYAN. A military wedding was solemnised at St. John’s Church, Parnell, on Wednesday, December 27, by the Very Rev. Father Cahill, assisted by Rev. Dr. Ormond and Rev. Father Brennan, of Remuera. The contracting parties were Miss Sue Ryan, fourth daughter of Mrs. R. Ryan, Tralee, Remuera, and Lieutenant J. D. Burgess, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Burgess, Ruakiwi. The bride, who was given away by her brother, was charmingly attired in a costume of blue French satin, with touches of- dull gold. She wore a smart hat of same shade lined with pink, and carried a beautiful bouquet of carnations and sweet sultans. The bridesmaids (Miss D. Ryan and Nurse A. Burgess) wore costumes of mole chiffon taffeta, and black tulle hats, and their bouquets consisted of the palest of pink carnations and sweet peas. The bridegroom’s gift to the bride was an emerald and diamond ,ring. Gold military watches were the gifts to the bridesmaids. The bridegroom was accompanied by Captain C. P. Ryan, 26th Reinforcements, as best man. After the ceremony, the guests were entertained at 1 Tralee,’ the residence of the bride’s mother, the cake being cut by the bride with the bridegroom’s sword. Later Mr. and Mrs. Burgess left by motor, the bride travelling in a costume of cream gabardine and hat of grey and rose ninon. Mrs. Burgess will reside in Featherston during her husband’s stay in camp.
