Chancellor Holbrook D.S., at the weekly meeting of the men's Holy Family Confraternity delivered a most interesting address on 1 Rumania,’ which land he visited a few years ago. An extraordinary meeting of the members of the Auckland branch of the 11.A.C.8. Society is to be held next Sunday afternoon in the Hibernian Hall to consider the Government proposals in reference to Friendly Societies. The Onehunga and Otahnhu branches have been invited to attend. A meeting was held in the Sacred Heart Schoolroom, Ponsonby, last evening with the object of considering matters in connection with the forthcoming Catholic conference, to be held in Auckland on Thursday, February 22. A message was received from his Lordship Bishop Brodie intimating his intention to come north and attend the conference. The Sacred Heart College students, under the charge of the Marist Brothers, have been very successful in the higher examinations, the results of which have appeared in the local papers this week. In the New Zealand University scholarship examination Master Maurice Flynn secured a credit pass, which entitles him to a free University course for three years. Master .M. P. Reddington passed matriculation. In another division the following results were achieved by the students. The examinations passed are indicated as follows: M., matriculation; S., solicitor’s general knowledge P., medical preliminary; and E., engineering preliminary. Masters W. Bailey, M., S., P., E. ; B. D. Hart, M.; J. P. McQuilken, M., S., P. ;J. R. Molloy, M. ; J. C. Woodley, M., S., P.; and Master B. E. Goldwater obtained a partial pass. These results are most gratifying and encouraging alike to the good Brothers, the students, and their parents, and to the Catholic community generally, because they clearly demonstrate that in the matter of education both in its primary and higher stages, our own schools can hold their own.
