NEW CONVENT AND SCHOOL AT MORVEN
The Catholics of Morven deserve hearty congratulations on the erection of two handsome brick buildings—the convent and school—which form a pleasing addition to the rising township. The convent is a twostorey building, designed and erected by the firm of Messrs Hertnon and Flanagan, of Timaru, and all who have visited it admire it very much. The school, built : by- the same firm, has two rooms, affording accommodation for 50 children,' and is supplied with duel desks of the latest model. The contract price was ,£I7OO, but the furniture of the school and convent and several improvements have necessitated an extra expenditure of £350. All the supporters of Catholic education are invited to attend the opening function next Sunday at 2.30 p.m., and their liberal offerings will be solicited to liquidate the debt. The Sisters of St. Joseph, whose work in the schools of South Canterbury and of other districts in New Zealand deserves the highest commendation, arrived from Sydney last week, and will begin their labors in the first week of February.
