Gisborne

(From our own correspondent.)

August 1. Mr. D. A. St radian, Government school inspector, has just completed the examination of the Convent Schools, conducted by the Sisters of St. Joseph. It is understood that very satisfactory results were obtained. The residents of Ormond met in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening to bid farewell to Mr. C. . Neenau and family, who are leaving Ormond. Mr. W. Tucker had charge of the arrangements, and some of the most influential residents of Poverty Bay spoke. The affair was a striking tribute to the esteem in which this worthy Catholic family is held. Mr. Neenau was the recipient of a handsomely illuminated address; his sons received gold sovereign cases, and his daughters silver wristlet watches.
