Father Edge took charge of the Huntly parish yesterday. J The city and suburban Catholic schools all opened this morning, and the attendances were very satisfactory. J At early Mass yesterday at St. Benedict’s the number of men who approached the Holy Table was very large, and the sight was a most edifying one. The concert committee for the St. Patrick’s Day celebration held a meeting last evening. Miss McEnroe, of Wellington, has been engaged by tho committee to sing here on St. Patrick’s Night. • Rev. Father Cahill took charge of the Ponsonby parish yesterday. Before leaving Huntly he was entertained and made the recipient of numerous presents from the laity, the H.A.C.B. Society, and the citizens of Huntly generally. Very Rev. Chancellor Holbrook took charge yesterday of the new parish of Grey Lynn. After Mass he was warmly welcomed by the parishioners. Messrs. G. Little and P. Brodie, on behalf of the parishioners, voiced their hearty welcome and good wishes. , The mission at Remuera conducted by the Redemptorist Fathers O Sullivan and Lynch concluded yesterday. Father O’Sullivan will be engaged this week at Ellerslie, and Father Lynch at the Home of the Little Sisters of ( the Poor. Very Rev. Mgr. Brodie assumed control of the Cathedral parish yesterday, and spoke eulogistically of the work of his predecessor, Father Holbrook, and also of that of Fathers Ormond, O’Malley, and O’Doherty. Tie assured the people that his life and energy would be devoted to their spiritual and best interests . Mr. William Redmond, M.P. for Clare, arrives here on Friday morning by the* Mararna en route for Vancouver. He consented by cable to accept a welcome from local Irishmen; and next Friday evening, in the concert chamber of the Town Hall, a public welcome will be accorded Mr. Redmond. Great enthusiasm prevails here over Mr. Redmond’s visit.
