Onehunga
• (From an occasional correspondent.) On Sunday, October 19, at the Church of the Assumption, Onehunga, 32 children had the very great happiness of making their First Communion. The altar was suitably decorated for the occasion, and the music and singing left nothing to be desired. The Rev. Father Golden, who has had charge of the parish during: the absence of the Very Rev. Dean Mahony, addressed the children and the congregation. He thanked the Sisters for their zeal and earnestness in preparing the children so well for the great Sacrament they had just received. He exhorted the parents to realise and appreciate the work of the -Sisters. He. reminded the children that the solemn event of that day was the hap-, piest of their lives, and that the only way of combating the temptations of the future would be by having recourse to prayer and the Sacraments. In conclusion he hoped the children would always be good practical
Catholics.; • Many of the adults present received Holy Communion. After the thanksgiving, the children withdrew to the Young Men's Club room, where they Hid justice to the good things provided by " the Catholic ladies of Onehunga. . -'""':''
