PRODUCE
Messrs. Donald Reid and Co. report:
We held our weekly sale of grain and produce on
Monday.
Oats. — moderate amount of business is being done for export, chiefly in good to prime Gartons and sparrowbills, but it is difficult to maintain late values. Medium and inferior lines have little attention. Prime milling, 2s 2d; good to best feed, 2s to 2s lid; inferior to medium, Is 9d to Is lid per bushel (sacks extra). Wheat. The market is unchanged, and practically, .no sales of milling lines are passing. Fowl wheat is offering rather more freely and at a slight reduction. Prime milling, 3s 9d to 3s'lod; medium to good, 3s 6d to 3s 8d; best whole fowl wheat, 3s 4d to 3s sd; medium, 3s to 3s 3d broken and damaged, 2s 6d to 2s lOd per bushel (sacks extra).
Potatoes. —The demand for export is well maintained, and all prime lots are readily quitted on arrival. Shippers give preference to guaranteed lines in new sacks, which sell at £6 5s to £6 10s : best table potatoes, £6 to £6 ss; medium to good, £5 10s to £5 15s; others, £4 10s to £5 per ton (bags included). Chaff. The market is glutted, and prices for all sorts show a decline. The quantity of medium and inferior chaff coming forward is excessive, and for these sorts there is practically no sale. The outlook for second-rate quality is so poor that a better result would be obtained by threshing. Best oaten sheaf, £3 to £3 ss; medium to good, £2 12s 6d to £2 17s Gd; inferior, £2 to £2 10s per ton (bags extra).
