OBITUARY
SISTER MARY JOSEPHINE DAVIES, WREYS BUSH.
Sister Mary Josephine, daughter of Captain J., Davies, Wairoa, Hawke's Bay, died at the Convent of Our Lady of Mercy, ' Wreys Bush, on the 13th inst. The deceased, a gentle and accomplished religious, who was esteemed and loved by her pupils and all who knew her, joined the Order of Mercy twenty vtars ago, and had since labored zealously and successfully for God in the head house at South Dunedin and in the various branch convents of the Order throughout the diocese. On Tuesday morning of last week a Solemn Requiem Mass for the repose of her soul was celebrated in St. Peter's Church,"Wreys Bush. Very. Rev. Dean Burke (Invercargill) was celebrant, Rev. Father. Murphy (Riverton) deacon, Rev. Father P. X J. O'Neill (Riversdale) subdeacon, Rev. J. Lynch (Wreys Bush) master of ceremonies. There were also present Rev. Fathers Delany (South Dunedin), P. O'Neill (Winton), W. Corcoran (St. Joseph's Cathedral), and H. Woods (Invercargill). The solemn music of the Mass was rendered,by St. Peter's Choir. The interment took place in the Wreys Bush Cemetery. The funeral cortege, formed by the clergy, the school children, the Children of Mary, and a large concourse of people who had come from all parts of Southland to pay their last tribute of respect, was one of the longest ever seen in the district.—R.LP.
