An amusing example of mixed metaphor occurred in the course of a conversation at the annual meeting of the Dannevirke Jockey Club. A member referring to the generous manner in which a gentleman present had stepped forward to fill a vacancy caused by the illness of an official of the club, said, ' he grasped the bull by the horns, and took told of the reins.' The remaining portion of the sentence was lost in laughter.
