(From our own correspondent.), December 24. , The results of this year's scholarship examinations in connection with the Sacred Heart College were" announced by the Rev. Brother George at the"" distribution, of prizes of the 'Marist Brothers' School last night. The boarding scholarship, open to all the "pupils of the Marist Brothers' schools in the Dominion, was won by Master J. Coleman, of Wellington. For the day scholarships, open only to the pupils of the. Marist Brothers' School, Auckland, there were sax. candidate?,
of "whom Masters A. Smith and J. Foley were success- " ful. The scholarships entitle the holders to free tuition at the college for a period of years. On the" Feast of the Expectation of the B.V.M., 1 Mr. -.• Owen Doyle received Minor Orders in the domestic; > chapel attached to the Bishop's House,, Ponsonby, front 1 his Lordship Dr. Lenihan. The assisting clergy were the Very Rev. Father Gillan, V.G.._, >ahd -Rev. Father - Farthing. On the -Feast of St. James the Apostle he had the Order of . subdeacon conferred on him, Bishop, Lenihan officiating. The assistants at the throne were the Very Rev. F.ather Gillan, V.G., Rev. Father Holbrook,_ Adm., Rev. Fathers- Tormey, Farthing, Hills, S.M., and G''Donnell, C.SS.R. The ordination of Rev. " O. Doyle to the priesthood will take place at St. Patrick's Cathedral on New Year's Day. In the meantime he will receive the diaconate .on the Feast of Str. John the Evangelist.
