LIVE STOCK. DUNEDIN HORSE SALEYARDS.

Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co., report as follows : —

The number of horsea forward this week was small, not more than about a dozen draughts being entered, and about a score of hacks and harness horses, The continued scarcity of both draughts and strong hari ess horse 9is making itself increasingly felt, and this was evidenced at thin week's sale in a very pronounced manner. The sale of the draughts was the liveliest we have experienced for a very long time, and prioea were higher than at any sale this year. On account of Mrs A. Day, Palmerston : Black mare, seven years, £55 10i ; and brown gelding, eight years old, £50 10*. On account of Mr Wm. Gamble, Bast Taieri : Bay mare, five years, £52 ; bay gelding, Bix years, £50 ; bay gelding eight years, £47 ; and an aged gelding, at £31. For other vendors we sold 6ix draught mares and gelding?, from nix to 11 years old, at £29 to £42. dome 10 or 12 useful harness horses changed hinds at from £11 to £22, one first-claw, upstanding dog-cart horse realising £27. The demand far exceeds the supply for the following classes of horses, viz. : (1) Heavy cart mares and geldings, five to eight years old, sound and staunch, suitable for the city contractors ; (2) useful farm horses, irrespective of age, so long aa they are sound, fresh, and staunch ; (3) for upstanding harness horses in their prime, heavy enough for spring-dray work and for town delivery light waggons, horses that are clean legged, active, and can trot along with a fair load behind them, two such pairs are wanted, besides several single horses of the same stamp ; (4) good active spring-cart horses suitable for butchers', bakers', and tradesmen's delivery carts ; (5) good upstanding horses suitable for the oity trams. Consignments of any of the foregoing classes are recommended, and clients can depend upon suitable horses realising excellent prices in this market. We quote : Superior young draught geldings, £45 to £54 ; extra good, prize horses, £55 to £60 ; medium draught mares and geldings, £34 to £44 ; aged do, £25 to £33 ; upstanding carriage horses, £30 to £35 ; well-matched carriage pairs, £80 to £90 ; strong springvan horse?, £28 to £37 ; milk-cart and butchers' order-cart horses, £24 to £27 ; tram-horses. £18 to £2G ; light hacks, £10 to £15 ; extra good hacks, £18 to £25 ; weedy and aged hacks and harness horses, £5 to £8.
