Thr Tongariro. in which Mr Seddon and family are returning to the Colony, is to make Auckland its first port of call, and is due there on the 24th prox. Mb W. P Reeves, Agent-General for New Zealand, has intimated that all the tenders received for the New Zealand-Souih African service have been declined. A West Coast subscriber in anxious to know the date of the arrival of the phip Lancashire Witch at Lyttelton. Perhaps some o f our Canterbury readers might be able to supply us with the information. Mr Colvin. M.H.R., has drawn the attention of the Government to the refusal of the Nelson Education Board to allow it! inspectors to examine tho Catholic schooln at Reefton. The Hon. Mr Mills, in reply, s-iid he did not know why the Nelson Board had taken this cxc ptional course, but, that being the case, he thought it became the duty of the Minister of Education to appoint someone who would visit the schools and give the children the same privilege of an annual examination as is possessed by children attending the State schools. Steps would be taken to hive the Catholic schools in Nelson examined. A ceremoky of religious profession and reception took plaoe in the convent chapel, Giaborne, on Tuesday. September 2. The two novices who made their vows were Miss Elizabeth Agnes Fitzgerald (in religion Sister Mary Vincent), youngest daughter of the late Mathew Fitzgerald, Longford, Ireland, and niece of Canon Fitzgerald, of Carnck-on-Shannon, County Leitrim, and of the late Rev, James Fitzgerald, P.P , Cashel, County Longford, and Miss Elizabeth Mary Fitzpa'rick (in religion Sister Mary Anthony) only daughter of the late Mr Michael Fitzpatrick, Sydney. The Rev. Father O'Connor officiated and preached a line sermon suitable to the occasion. The Rev. Father King was present, in the sanctuary. The young lady who received the habit of the Order was Misa Mary Mullenry (.now Sister Mary Stanislaus), Branxton. New South Wales.
