ARCHDIOCESE OF WELLINGTON

(From our own correspondent.) September 6. The Yen. Archdeacon Devoy left for Wanganui on Saturday last and preached at St. Patrick's Church on the following day. Rev. Father Ainsworth is expected in Wellington about the middle of next week. M. Jean Gerardy played the Offertory piece at the Churoh of the Sacred Heart on Sunday last, accompanied by Herr Gottfried Galßton on the organ. The celebrated 'cellist dined with the Archbishop on the same day. A second storey is being added to the Convent school at the Lower Hutt. The additional accommodation thereby provided will be used by the nuns as a residence when it is found necessary for them to remain at the Hutt. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament was held at St. Joseph's Church on Sunday last. The choir rendered Haydn's No. 2 Mass, and was assisted by an orchestra. As an Offertory Mr Boyd played a trombone solo. After Vespers the usual procession of the Blessed Sacrament was held, the members of the different societies taking part. Recent letters from Home contain the gratifying news that Dr. H. St, Leger Gribben has obtained his M.D. degree at the University of Edinburgh. Dr. Gribben, the son of Mr. H. Gribben, of Hokitika, went Home rather more than six years ago after a successful career at St. Patrick's College and Otago University, and he being the first ex-student of the former institution to attain so high a distinction in the medical profession will be welcome news to his numerous friends throughout the Colony.
