THE WAR IN SOUTH AFRICA.
Ex-President Kruger arrived at Delagoa Bay last week, and from thence will leave immediately fer Europe. It is said that the departure of Mr Kruyer has disheartened the Boers, and there is every prospect that there will be a gener..l hui render in a very short time. Lord Roberts haj ifsued a proclamation. He states that Me--«rs Kru^tr and Kelt/, with the archives, lia\e reached Delagoa, intending to sail for Europe. Mr Kruger Ivts- resigned the Presidency, severing hii oiliciul connection with the Transvaal. His desertion of the Boer cani-e is a proof of the hopelessness of the struggle. Fifteen thousand Boers nre now held pusoner*, not on- of whom will be released until all in the field surrender unconditionally. The Couimander-in-Chief announced that intervention must be regarded as impossible, that the Empire is determined to complete the task undertaken, and that any hngtiing doubt on this point that the Boers may hold must be di-p^lled by the permanent manner in which the Itepubles have been oci-upad and annexed. He intends to suppress guerilla warfare by every means ■which the customs o! war may prescribe. He points out that the measures he may b« required to take will prove ruinous to the country, entailing eulless suffering.
