INVERCARGILL.
CFrom our own correspondent.) Political matters are being stirred up in Invercargill now. During the last month the Premier, Mr. Kelly, M.U.R., and Mr. M. J. S. Mackenzie, M.H.R., delivered addresses to very large audiences, and on Wednesday evening we are promised another political address from Mr. A. W. Morris. The annual Winter Show of the Southland A. and 1' Association (writes our Invercargill correspondent) was very successful. The display of grain, roots-, bacon, cheese, and agricultural and pastoral products generally was very fine, and showed what Southland with its large tracts of splendid land is capable of turning out. The Catholic Literary Society's meeting on Tuesday evening, | 20th June, was very well attended when the debate ou Prohibition was commenced. The Very Rev. Dean Burke occupied the chair, and in an opening address placed the question before the meeting. Messrs. Nolan and McMullan spoke for the measure, and Key. Bro. Dunstan and Mr. P. Scully against it. These addresses occupying a large amount of time, the debate was adjourned for a week on the motion of Mr. Nolan.
Whoever sows the wind will have to reap the whirlwind sooner or later. His crop may be long- in ripening, but some day or other it will confront him unless the evil seed be destroyed by acts of sorrow and repentance.
